The food was amazing! I had the onion rings appetizer. They are not doing themselves a favor by continuing with that look on the outside. DO NOT JUDGE THIS PLACE BY THE OUTSIDE!!! When I arrived outside, it looked like some old diner or tavern. I was thoroughly impressed by the service and the décor /music/overall ambience is appropriate and magical. I was just passing through on my way home to Chicago. If everything were just a bit thicker, RCG might jump into the 4 star range. It was sort of a metaphor for the meal - When I eat at a BBQ joint, I want to walk away stuffed.
Service was good, although the waitress seemed like she was waiting too many tables and stretched a bit thin. We had pecan pie for dessert which was good as well. I thought the sauces were decent too - tangy, sweet, and spicy - and the mustard was unique and added some zing. Other positives: loved the side of beans. Otherwise, the pulled and sliced porks were pretty good. Not to mention the portion, which felt small. With promises of «If you have to pick up a fork to eat our ribs, we’ll pick up the tab!» I was imagining something more succulent, meaty, and tender than what was given.
We had two «pick 2» combos, so we were able to sample the ribs, roasted chicken, sliced pork, and pulled pork, along with many of the sides. Overall good dining experience the food was just a little underwhelming. My nephew and niece were in a commercial for the Rifle location, so that’s awesome! There previously was a location in Glenwood Springs too, but it has since closed. Makes you feel like you’re in an episode of Dukes Of Hazzard, it’s so downhome! This restaurant has a location in Montrose and one in Rifle.
Country music is heard playing in the background, and being we were there during Christmas time, holiday country music was playing. The atmosphere here is laid back and downhome. They also have a spicy one, which we didn’t try but will have to whenever we are back to visit Dad again. This place is known for their barbecue sauces: Original Brown Sugar Sauce, Apple Cider Vinegar Based Sauce, and Mustard BBQ Sauce… all which are really tasty. SO FREAKIN” YUMMY! Got started off with an appetizer of onion rings, which we all split. I had the Riblets and they were sooooo delicious… along with baked beans and Texas Toast. Dad took us here for lunch during our visit and I see why he and other members of my family love this place! Good lunch specials top off the experience, alongside of really great customer service and very helpful waitstaff, ready to answer any questions you may have.
